Mafab Communications Unveils Groundbreaking 5G Services Worldwide

Contrary to media some media reports yesterday, Mafab Communications, one of the companies granted Fifth Generation (5G) licences by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has actually rolled out its 5G network services in Abuja since 2023.

According to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek The rollout occurred nearly a year after the telecom company spent $273.6 million on spectrum in the 3.5GHz band during a government auction.

Mafab Communications, has, not however kept to its promise to to strengthen its commercial operations by March 2025.

As announced, they were set to launch their high-speed 5G services via 102 operationally ready sites positioned strategically in Kano and Abuja; however, this had not occurred by the end of March.

A source within the firm confirmed that beginning this month, customers using Mafab’s 5G routers will have access to superfast connections as their growing network rolls out further.

This step is intended to tap into the expanding market for 5G services in Nigeria.

Dr Musbahu Bashir, founder and chairman, Mafab Communications, said during the rollout launch that the telco will offer both voice and data services nationwide.

Additionally, Nigerian cities like Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna have been listed for the deployment of 5G services while those not on the list will have services deployed at a later stage.

"The launch of Mafab Communications' 5G network marks the start of significant opportunities for the nation, showcasing Nigeria's potential and endless possibilities," he stated.

"The potential for more jobs due to the value-chain advantages this technology will create and provide is our shared vision that we've come together to kick off today," Bashir went on to say.
