Muftwang: Nigeria's Critical Error in Handling Boko Haram
On Wednesday, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State stated that Nigeria erred significantly by permitting Boko Haram terrorists and other non-state actors to operate in certain areas of the nation.
Mutfang stated that it was crucial for all leaders and key stakeholders to guarantee that nobody functions within Nigeria’s boundaries possessing abilities that rival, let alone surpass, those of the security forces.
During the presentation of attack UAVs (drones) and the testing of domestically-produced explosives at the Briech UAS facility in Kuje, Abuja—the headquarters of this local tech firm specializing in drone manufacturing—he made these remarks.
According to Daily Trust, terrorists have been active across various regions of the nation for over ten years, with a significant presence in the northeastern part of the country, where they have placed explosives and land mines.
Before the unveiling, the governor stated that it would be prudent for all parties involved to collaborate with local businesses regarding security technology partnerships. This approach aims to circumvent the challenges associated with acquiring such equipment from international sources.
Mutfwang stated, "Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to the Nigerian Armed Forces for their efforts in ensuring the security of our country."
As the governor of Plateau State, I can confirm the dedication and effectiveness of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Thanks to their efforts, Plateau is once again becoming known as the haven for peace and tourism.
One tool that has facilitated this progress is the successful implementation of technology for addressing these challenges. This is why Briech UAS has joined hands with our state. Their collaboration has enabled certain facilities to be stationed here, resulting in significant enhancements in the effectiveness of our ground forces.
Certainly, we have erred as a country by permitting non-state entities to amass powers that rival or even surpass those of official governmental bodies, and now is the moment to rectify this imbalance. It is crucial that we reach a stage wherein nobody can operate inside our territory using abilities that match—or worse yet, outstrip—those entrusted with safeguarding our national sovereignty under the constitution.
'I thus applaud this move by the company as we embark on a strategic and, let me add, pragmatic acquisition of technology that comes with no hidden conditions.'
