NDDC Empowers Delta Girls in STEM: An International Edition

The Niger Delta Development Commission has disclosed major initiatives aimed at enhancing science and technology education by providing crucial skills to young females for the contemporary era.

This program seeks to close the gender gap in STEM fields and promote innovation within the Niger Delta area.

At the conclusion of the Girl Child STEM competition in Port Harcourt, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC—who was represented by Dr. Awele Chukwudifu, the Director of Education—expressed his continued dedication to investing in human resources during the event’s final ceremonies.

This STEM contest has significantly benefited young girls by providing them with crucial technological skills needed for the future," she stated, commending the NDDC Board and Management for their commitment to enhancing education.

Prof. Continue Eletu, speaking on behalf of the Director of the Rivers State Office, highlighted that this initiative is in line with the Commission’s key policy objectives.

He observed that the administration under Ogbuku continues to prioritize the empowerment of girls in the Niger Delta by offering them chances to thrive in STEM disciplines.

"This program provides students with an opportunity to thrive in mathematics, engineering, and science—disciplines essential for fostering innovation and advancing society," said Eletu.

The STEM contest included contestants from all nine states of the Niger Delta region and acted as a stage for fostering upcoming women leaders in technology and engineering fields.

Eletu emphasized that NDDC's policies are aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting, "By educating a girl, you educate an entire nation."

The Lead Consultant for the program, Chief Godson Ideozu, characterized the event as the result of an intensive selection procedure.

He disclosed that the subsequent stage will focus on providing mentorship, aiming to maintain ongoing engagement with STEM disciplines.

The most memorable part of the event was the award ceremony for the outstanding students, where the overall victor, Miss Jegede Osamagbe, conveyed her appreciation: "I am grateful to the NDDC for providing me with this chance. To all young girls everywhere, keep in mind—that which you can envision, you can accomplish."
