Opposition's Deceptions Exposed: Chirag Paswan Addresses Waqf Amendment Bill
Patna (Bihar) [India], April 5 (ANI): Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Saturday lashed out at the INDIA alliance for their criticism of Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and said that the opposition has always "misled" people about the government.
“Every time the NDA government has introduced a law, bill, or amendment aimed at integrating weaker sections into the mainstream, the opposition has consistently misinformed people regarding these measures. They have continually attempted to create a misleading storyline,” stated Paswan.
Regarding the CAA, the revocation of Article 370, and the building of the Ram Temple, Paswan stated that the opposition initially misled the public and continues to do so even now. Waqf Amendment Bill .
For example, upon the implementation of CAA, the opposition attempted to deceive the public...Similarly, during the revocation of Article 370 and the building of the Shri Ram Temple, they engaged in misleading tactics. Even in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they misled citizens...Now, they are once again resorting to these deceptive practices... Waqf Amendment Bill By claiming that it goes against the well-being of the Muslim community,” Paswan stated.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was approved by the Rajya Sabha late Thursday night into early Friday morning, receiving 128 votes in support and 95 against. Previously, in the Lok Sabha, the legislation had been endorsed with 288 votes in favor.
Multiple Opposition Parties, including the Congress and AIMIM have challenged the bill in the Supreme Court. Additionally, several Janata Dal (United) Leaders have objected to the party's backing of the bill, leading them to quit the party as well.
Following the incorporation of suggestions from the Joint Parliamentary Committee that reviewed the law presented in August of the previous year, the government unveiled an updated version of the bill. This new legislation aims to modify the 1995 Act with the intention of enhancing the governance and oversight of Waqf assets within India.
This legislation seeks to address the deficiencies of the prior act and boost the effectiveness of Waqf boards by refining the registration procedures and amplifying the use of technology in overseeing Waqf documentation. (ANI)
