Sri Lankan President Bestows Highest Honor on PM Modi with Mitra Vibhushan Award

Colombo [ Sri Lanka ], April 5 (ANI): Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the country's top accolade for a leader from another nation, the Mitra Vibhushana award. Dissanayake stated that PM Modi thoroughly merits this recognition.

In a shared press release with Prime Minister Modi, Dissanayake stated, "I am delighted to announce that the government of Sri Lanka has chosen to bestow upon him PM Narendra Modi ) the highest Sri Lanka In honor of a leader from another country—the president or prime minister. Sri Lanka President announced this following their bilateral meeting and delegation-level discussions in Colombo on Saturday.

The External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, along with other officials, participated in the meeting.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi was accorded a historic ceremonial welcome at Independence Square in Colombo. It is the first time that Sri Lanka has honoured a visiting leader in this manner.

PM Modi is on a State visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6 at the invitation of Sri Lanka President Disanayaka's arrival in Colombo on Friday signified his inaugural visit to the city. Sri Lanka since 2019.
