1 arrested after Amarillo police locate stolen car using new technology
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Police Department recently located and returned a stolen car using technology from the Amarillo Regional Crime Center.
According to APD, a 2010 White Chevrolet Malibu was stolen, and the owner of the vehicle knew and was able to identify the suspect.
Just over four hours later, the stolen license plate alerted through license plate readers.
The ARCC launched a drone to locate the stolen car and was able to lead officers to its location and direction of travel.
Operators and officers were able to stop the car in the Toot N’ Totum parking lot at Line and S. Georgia St.
Officers conducted a felony stop and detained both a driver and passenger of the car.
The driver was later arrested for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle.
The passenger was released with no charges.
The car was returned to its owner.
