Delhi Airport Introduces Advanced Full-Body Scanners Starting May – International Edition (English)
New Delhi [India], April 4 (ANI): The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has recently announced DIAL ) will begin testing for cutting-edge complete body scanners In May, at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), adhering to the most recent directives from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
Four advanced scanners have been acquired, with two set up at Terminal 1 (T1) and another pair located at Terminal 3 (T3). The integration of these devices into the IT system is currently underway. Following a trial period lasting between three to four months, a committee spearheaded by BCAS will assess the outcomes and develop an SoP for comprehensive deployment. DIAL stated in an announcement on Friday.
By employing millimeter-wave technology functioning within the 70 to 80 GHz range, these scanners improve security By safeguarding passenger privacy, these systems differ from traditional X-ray machines as they do not release radiation, thus posing no risk to travelers such as expectant mothers or those with medical devices. Additionally, their design aims to streamline passenger flow, enhancing the overall efficiency of airports and reducing queuing durations.
These sophisticated scanners can identify both metallic and non-metallic hazards, such as explosives, markedly enhancing over conventional metal detectors. This technology, which has been implemented at key international airports in countries like the U.S., Canada, and Australia, allows for quick screenings; every scan takes only about three seconds, achieving up to 1,200 scans hourly. Consequently, this boosts operational efficiency considerably while reducing passenger delays, thereby decreasing annoyance during security checks. DIAL said.
To tackle privacy issues, these scanners create a standard 2D image of a pre-set humanoid figure, guaranteeing that no individual pictures are retained. Equipped with four touch screen displays for assessing images and assisting passengers, they have the capability to scan people ranging from 3.3 feet to 6.7 feet tall.
