Tesla’s autonomous robotaxis could hit the streets of London by next year
Uber and the British startup Wayve have announced plans to launch a robotaxi service in London by 2026, according to TechCrunch.
The UK government has moved up the start of commercial autonomous vehicle pilots to 2026, previously set for 2027.
There is still limited information about the robotaxi plans, such as the exact launch date.
Wayve is renowned for its AI-based driving technology.
Uber, which invested in the startup in 2024, plans to integrate Wayve’s technology into its platform worldwide.
The companies have also announced how many robotaxis will be part of the project at launch.
According to the startup, the automaker will supply the vehicles, Wayve will integrate the driving intelligence, a fleet operator will handle management, and Uber will be responsible for customer service.
“This is a landmark moment for autonomy in the UK,” said Alex Kendall, CEO of Wayve.
